Pinterest Christmas - part 2

Pinterest craft #2 this season is slightly sillier than the first. It's a mini fireplace! Living in a city apartment my roommate and I had no place to hang our stockings so I crafted this chalkboard mantle.
So far it as served as (1) the best conversation starter with our guests and (2) a backdrop for a marshmallow toasting photo shoot.

I hope Santa finds our stockings!

Merry Christmas!

Pinterest Christmas - part 1

Each year I spend hours laboriously crafting gifts for friends and family. This year I took a different approach and purchased most of their gifts. Instead I spent my time crafting some pieces for my own home d├ęcor.
Pinterest is of course, my favorite place for inspiration. I'd point you to my Christmas board but I actually keep it private in order to store gift ideas. This pillow was a combination of two pins, this pillow with stenciling detail and this sign with the Luke verse.

I stenciled the verse on with sharpie and added red piping and an embroidered red star.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Gifting

In 2009 one of my favorite movies came out, Sherlock Holmes, with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I am a complete Holmes fan, but not a purist so this action-packed  adaptation of the classic detective story was perfect.

As a costumer I loved the movie as well. I especially loved the scarf Dr. Watson appeared in right at the beginning. The brown and blue one striped with grey. It was long and warm and looked like a costume piece that could easily get slipped into the modern wardrobe.

So I started knitting. And because I’m such a speed knitter it only took me until last week to complete. I’ve been on a kick of finishing projects lately and all this scarf was waiting on was 20 minutes to weave in the ends of all the yarn.

As I was preparing to list it for sale in my Etsy shop my dashing 18 year old brother walked up and caught a glimpse. He pointed to the Christmas list he had just posted which said “1. Unique Scarf”.

It’s sure unique! I made him pretend he hadn’t seen it and quickly wrapped it up and dropped it under the tree.
Merry Christmas!
